About Santa Clarita
Let your inner cowgirl or cowboy come alive in Santa Clarita, California. This city still embodies the iconic western culture that Hollywood and its movies made famous. Even though the western lifestyle is prevalent here, the city also has other features for those less inclined to grab a Stetson and head out on the town.
Santa Clarita won the geography lottery with mountains, rivers, and the valley. It’s a mere 30 miles from downtown Los Angeles and embraces the arts and culture that we know and love in that city while adding its own spin on them. Between the Vasquez Rocks Natural Area Park, the Cowboy Festival, and the public art tour, there really is something for everyone in Santa Clarita.

It’s hard to imagine there are any downsides to Santa Clarita, but there are a few things that give us pause, so here are the pros and cons of video shoot location options in Santa Clarita for you to consider.
Advantages
- Scenic
The beauty of the area is unparalleled. We weren’t kidding when we said that Santa Clarita won the geographic lottery, and you can enjoy the Santa Clara River, Vasquez Rocks Natural Area Park, Santa Clara Valley, and much more while you’re here.
- Weather
The high desert location means it’s a mild climate, and that almost non-stop good weather makes everything a little easier at your video shoot. Plus, you can enjoy that scenic beauty of the area when you’re done working for the day.
- Safe city
We feel safer in some cities than others, and while that’s unfortunate, it’s also still true. Santa Clarita is one of the cities we feel safe in, and it has the safety ratings to back that feeling up.
Disadvantages
- Extreme weather events
Every once in a while, the weather gets turned upside down here, and there’s a wildfire, mudslide, earthquake, flood, or drought. Pay attention so you can plan accordingly in case one pops up during your visit.
- High Cost
All those advantages aren’t free (although the scenic beauty is mostly free). The cost of living and working in Santa Clarita is slightly higher than in other locations and will take a large percentage of your budget, but the end results may speak for themselves.
- Crowds
Santa Clarita’s advantages aren’t a secret and that’s attracted even more people to the area. This has increased crowds and congestion. You’ll find more competition for the space you want to shoot your video in, the caterer you want to use, and even on the trail, you decide to hike at the end of a day of shooting.
